I have run one particular choir NEWHAM SUPER CHOIR in Newham East London since 2006.
I also run Singing for Health in the borough, which as the title suggests, introduces the participants to the benefits of singing.
I have previously run singing projects in different community centres in the borough. The participants from these centres have since joined Newham Super Choir.
I don't only work with adults - I was the Classical Music Leader for Newham Young Peoples Chorus for 3 years.
There are two films, to do with my Newham choirs, below
There is a movement to introduce singing to care homes as a regular activity. Especially those with dementia.
I have been involved in a project for NAPA and several projects for C&C www.ccht.org.uk (Central and Cecil charity) in their care homes and assisted living blocks.
In 2016 C&C celebrated 90 years of existence with a project MY FRONT DOOR. There is a film of the 2 day event at the bottom of the page.
During Lockdown some members of the choirs met via Zoom. I decided to make a film about their experiences during the months they were forced to be at home. Because of the restrictions I was forced to do the interviews via Zoom too, making it all the more relevant.
This is a film made by Bernie Wighton of Newham Super Choir in action back in 2014.
